During a recent appearance on TalkSport’s GameDay podcast, Mirror journalist Darren Lewis claimed Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers ‘wants to be sacked’ and has no desire to be a part of the club due to its lack of ambition.
The Foxes currently sit rock bottom of the Premier League table after their weekend loss and are one of the only teams so far this season yet to pick up a win, while they have conceded the second-most goals with 16.
As a result of this poor form, which has largely stemmed from their awful recruitment in the summer which saw just one player come in for a fee in Wout Faes, Rodgers has come under fire and is the current favourite to be the second manager to lose his job in the Premier League this season, while he appeared to openly criticise the board following their recent defeat to Manchester United.
However, Lewis recently revealed he believes Rodgers is in fact under no pressure and wants to be fired as Leicester are not the same team they were just a season or two ago when they won the FA Cup and broke up the so-called ‘big six’.
Lewis said on the GameDay podcast: “I don’t think he’s under pressure. I think he wants to be sacked. I think he doesn’t want to be part of a Leicester side that isn’t ambitious anymore. You talked about his comments on Thursday, I saw the game and Leicester are not the same club they were.”

It is not surprising Rodgers could be looking to leave the Foxes, as he has had no investment from the club this summer and lost two of his key players in Kasper Schmeichel and Wesley Fofana.
In their most recent game, they were embarrassingly beaten 5-2 by Brighton & Hove Albion, which could have been even worse if Alexis Mac Allister’s wonder-strike had not been ruled out for offside during the build-up. The team has been labelled as ‘devoid of confidence’, and this result is a perfect example of that.
With Aston Villa, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest in their next three games, they should be looking to pick up some valuable points, but if they fail to win or even draw in any of these games, it would not be surprising to see Rodgers step down or even face the sack.
