Leeds United transfer target Ben Brereton Diaz will be in “huge demand” ahead of the January transfer window.
That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Elland Road during the international break.
Chile international Brereton Diaz, whose goalscoring form has been described as “sensational” by Josh Bunting, currently has less than a year remaining on his contract at Blackburn Rovers, meaning that he could be available for a cut-price fee in January.
According to the Daily Mail, Leeds are just one of a host of clubs interested in a move for the 14-time Chile international, and would consider making a move for the 23-year-old on a free transfer next summer.
And O’Rourke seems to agree with the report from the Daily Mail, and suggests that there will be lots of interest in Brereton Diaz over the coming months.
“Brereton Diaz I’m sure will be in huge demand with his contract situation.
“He will be in the final six months of his contract at Blackburn.
“So, it’ll be up to Blackburn to decide if they want to cash in on him or maybe risk letting him leave on a free transfer.”
TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments
We believe that if Leeds want to secure the signature of Brereton Diaz, they may have to make a move in January rather than waiting for the summer in the hope they can sign him on a free transfer.
The Stoke-on-Trent-born striker has scored 26 goals in 47 Championship appearances since the beginning of last season according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that a number of sides who feel they could do with a striker will be vying for his signature in January.
Therefore, we struggle to envisage a situation in which Blackburn will let their star man leave for free, and we feel that Leeds will have to try their luck in January to secure his signature.
