Sky Sports journalist Tim Thornton has tipped Leeds United winger Jack Harrison for an England call-up and claims Gareth Southgate has watched him on a couple of occasions.

The West Yorkshire side have enjoyed a decent start to the Premier League season as they currently sit ninth in the table, even after losing two of their star players in Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips this past summer.

A big reason for their impressive start is the form of star man Harrison, who stayed at Elland Road despite links to Newcastle United during the summer for a fee of around £33.5m.

As a result of this good form, Thornton recently revealed to GiveMeSport that the 25-year-old could be due an England call-up as manager Southgate has watched him play a few times, and that he ‘fits the bill’ for the national side.

Thornton said: “I know Southgate has watched him quite a few times and I don’t think he’s been too far away from getting into England squads in the past.

“He fits the bill in terms of his energy levels and his stats are really good, he creates a lot of chances for his teammates, and he scores as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Jack Harrison…

Harrison has stepped up for Leeds this season after the departure of Raphinha – who carried the bulk of their attacking output last season – with one goal and three assists in his first six Premier League games.

As well as ranking second in their goals and assists rankings so far this season, he has also shown his defensive abilities, by ranking in the 93rd percentile for blocks, in the 86th for pressures and in the 79th for clearances per game compared to other attacking midfielders and wingers in the Premier League.

It is always going to be difficult for Harrison to get into the England team with the likes of Bukayo Saka, Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho all vying for places. However, if he continues his recent form and can be the talisman for Leeds, there is no reason why he shouldn’t get an opportunity before the World Cup starts, as he is a truly talented player who at least deserves a chance.
