YouTuber Conor McGilligan has urged Leeds United to make a late swoop for ‘unbelievable’ attacker Cody Gakpo.

As we enter the final stages of this summer’s transfer market, the Whites still seem to be on the hunt for a new attacker. This was as good as confirmed recently when manager Jesse Marsch said (via The Express) that the club are ‘trying everything they can’ to sign a new forward.

And after Rodrigo suffered a dislocated shoulder in Leeds’ most recent game, talk has picked up regarding a possible move for PSV Eindhoven’s main man.

However, they face competition from the likes of Everton and Southampton, with the latter even submitting an offer to PSV that was turned down (via The Athletic).

In reaction to all these rumours, McGilligan urged Leeds to just go out and splash the cash even if it costs the club a fair chunk of change.

Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he said: “I’m hoping they go out and sign Cody Gakpo what an unbelievable signing that would be.

“Southampton had a bid of £21m bid rejected yesterday for him, so they’re going to be hot on the tails of him. It’s going to cost Leeds a lot of money again.

“But yeah, I just think if they don’t do anything, it’s gonna hurt us down the line.”

TIF Thoughts on Cody Gakpo and Leeds…

Following that injury to Rodrigo, Leeds will be heavily reliant on main senior striker Patrick Bamford staying fit. Considering his recent injury past, that will represent a bit of a risk for the club.

And so, the Whites may well be better served bringing in a new face and with six goals already in four Eredivisie games this season, it’s easy to see why Gakpo has been labelled as a potential ‘unbelievable signing’.

Still, with a number of Premier League clubs chasing the Dutchman too, it certainly won’t be an easy deal for Leeds to sort in the final hours of the transfer window.

The need is there though, and his quality can’t be doubted, so this could be one to keep an eye out for.
