Presenter Conor McGilligan has been left excited amid some recent quotes from Leeds United transfer target Valentin Castellanos.

Over the summer, the Whites were heavily linked with a move for the forward. However, he moved on loan from New York City FC to Spanish club Girona.

As it is only a loan, hope still may remain for Leeds United over a possible future deal and it seems as though the player could have opened the door for a switch too.

Indeed, the Argentinian recently told Mundo Deportivo that he is keen to stay in Europe beyond his initial loan. He explained: “Without a doubt, I want to stay in Europe. It’s always been my dream, that’s what I aspire to and that’s why I work every day. I feel I have what it takes to be in this league.”

Reacting to this claim while speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, McGilligan called the quotes ‘interesting’ and claimed Castellanos would be a ‘perfect’ target for the club.

He said (11:00): “Very interesting when it comes to Castellanos and him staying in Europe and him wanting that.

“Is he one that Leeds could go for or should go for? He looks like a perfect profile, he’d be much cheaper [than Cody Gakpo] as well.”

TIF thoughts on Valentin Castellanos and Leeds United…

The 23-year-old has started all five La Liga games for Girona so far this season, scoring once and helping his side win twice and draw once (via Transfermarkt).

And so, while it’s not exactly been a blistering start to life in Europe, he is doing well enough. If he can continue to contribute on a regular basis, clubs such as Leeds may well make a move for the forward next summer – especially considering their past interest.

McGilligan alludes to someone like Gakpo, who is a target but will be tough to sign amid plenty of competition, and so Castellanos may well be the ideal alternative option available for a much cheaper price.

At the very least, the Argentine is keen to remain in Europe following these latest quotes, so this could be one to keep an eye on.

Just because he says he wants to stay in Europe does not mean he may sign for Leeds. What is this guy banging on about? The muppet
