Leeds United are now set to complete two major pieces of transfer business in the coming hours of the summer transfer window.

This is according to the reliable Leeds journalist Phil Hay who has been speaking on The Athletic’s YouTube channel to discuss the deadline day latest from Thorp Arch.

It has been a summer of change for the Whites, with their two main men from last season, Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha, departing and seven new faces coming through the doors.

And Seven arrivals is now soon expected to become eight, with Victor Orta believed to have struck a deal with Marseille to bring Bamba Dieng to West Yorkshire.

With this, Hay believes this has given Daniel James the green light to complete his departure from Elland Road with a season-long loan deal to Fulham now expected to go through.

He said: “They’ve gone after Bamba Dieng this morning – 22-year-old at Marseille, a forward who looked like he was on the verge of moving to Lorient on loan.

“But Leeds have managed to interfere with that deal. They’ve managed to get themselves in the running, and our understanding is that a fee has been agreed with Marseille and that he will be flying to England this afternoon in order to get that deal done and to sign – all being well – before the deadline.”

“As it stands at the moment, it’s looking like the in will be Dieng and the out is likely to be Dan James, and that Leeds will get another forward before the deadline passes.”

TIF Thoughts on Hay’s comments…

It has been quite the 12 hours or so for Leeds, who were believed to be in the race for Cody Gakpo, with Orta returning to England this morning without a deal for the winger.

Is Dieng an upgrade on Daniel James?

No

However, it seems he has wasted no time in looking for an alternative and Dieng is now set to add to Jesse Marsch’s options in attack.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a promising 2021/22 campaign with the Ligue 1 side as he netted seven goals and provided three assists in his 27 league appearances (via Transfermarkt).

These stats should provide Leeds fans with some cause for optimism given James was only able to provide four goals in more league appearances last season for the Whites.
