Conor McGilligan has admitted on his YouTube channel he fully believes Leeds United will go back in for Cody Gakpo.

Leeds were seemingly very interested in Gakpo as the summer transfer window neared a close with Victor Orta even flying over to Eindhoven to try and wrap up a deal, although PSV were rather reluctant to lose Gakpo.

While Andrea Radrizzani confirmed that Leeds would keep working on Gakpo ahead of their next transfer window, but following his impressive start to the season with 19 goal involvements it looks unlikely he will end up at Leeds.

McGilligan though believes Leeds will still go back in for the winger amidst comments by Fabrizio Romano claiming all English clubs will be back in for Gakpo in January.

TIF Thoughts on Leeds’ interest in Gakpo…

Given how well Gakpo performed last season and once again this campaign, it appears highly unlikely he would leave PSV Eindhoven, a club who can offer him European football, for Leeds, especially when other clubs are interested.

This was a low point in Leeds United's history, but how many points did they get in the 2003/04 campaign?

Reports have suggested that clubs pushing in the Champions League are now taking a closer look at Gakpo, such as Manchester United, so even if Leeds do lodge another bid for the winger, it’s unlikely that Leeds would be at the front of that queue.

While going after someone such as Gakpo, who has been hailed as a ‘very good’ player, shows intent and ambition from the Leeds board, it shouldn’t distract them from more realistic targets that could also improve the squad.
