Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Leeds United sporting director Victor Orta is currently being targeted.

Over the past summer, the Whites lost two of their key men in big money moves as Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha both left the club for pastures new.

Now, though, it seems as though a key man could be on his way out of the club too as a possible opportunity arises for Orta.

Indeed, according to Romano, Chelsea are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to trying to hire a new director but the Leeds man could be a candidate.

While speaking on the Que Golazo podcast, the journalist spoke about the whole situation and outlined who could be on the Blues’ list.

He said: “What I can guarantee to you is that they want to keep everything secret, in the next days and weeks, so from a journalistic point of view it’s not going to be easy.

“We have many rumours of directors from Bundesliga again, from Bayern Leverkusen. But also Victor Orta, who is doing a great job at Leeds with the president [Andrea] Radrizzani.”

TIF thoughts on Victor Orta and Leeds…

Chelsea had been close to appointing Christoph Freund, it seemed, only for that deal to fall apart recently and so it would make sense for the Blues to be keeping their next plan a little more private in case the same situation happened.

With that in mind, it’s hard to know just how far or close to Orta the club might be amid all this talk from Romano. Nonetheless, this update may be rather concerning for those at Leeds who appreciate the job their director has done.

After all, since the Spaniard joined the club in 2017, he has overseen things as Leeds have established themselves as a Premier League club since their promotion from the Championship in 2020 (via LeedsLive).

Taking that success into account, Chelsea may well see him as an ideal candidate who could make the step up for them.
