Journalist Joe Donnohue has been blown away by the display of Darko Gyabi for Leeds United in their academy game recently.

This week, the Whites Under-21 side continued their Premier League 2 Division 2 campaign with a match against Southampton which they won 6-2.

While the game allowed a number of senior men to get some minutes in their legs as they look to build up fitness – such as Patrick Bamford (who netted a hattrick), Luke Ayling, Junior Firpo and Liam Cooper – it seems as though one 18-year-old really caught the eye.

Indeed, during the match, Gyabi earned the compliments of Donnohue for his ability to operate in tight spaces. The journalist took to Twitter to praise what he’d seen.

He wrote: “Darko Gyabi having a bit of a stormer, particularly in tight spaces, always seems to wriggle free.”

TIF thoughts on Darko Gyabi and Leeds…

The young midfielder joined from Manchester City over the summer for a fee of around £5m, having signed a four-year contract with Leeds United.

Since then, he has featured only on the pitch in Premier League 2 (and once on the bench in the Premier League), but that hasn’t stopped him from standing out it seems.

Indeed, Donnohue wasn’t the only one to be impressed in the win over Southampton. In the player ratings for LeedsLive, Gyabi was handed an 8/10 for his efforts and referred to as ‘silky smooth in the middle of the park’.

All in all, it looks as though the midfielder is one to keep an eye on for the future.
