Journalist Beren Cross has tipped Illan Meslier to draw some transfer interest from ‘Europe’s top table’ following his displays for Leeds United.
Up to this point in the season, the goalkeeper has started every Premier League game for the Whites, helping the team win twice, lose twice and draw twice in their six outings.
This will be the third season in England’s top flight where Meslier is trusted as the number one option between the sticks for Leeds, and Cross has claimed that his form may be enough to draw some interest from some top club’s across the continent.
Indeed, while writing a ‘player ratings so far’ article for LeedsLive, he handed the 22-year-old an 8/10 for his efforts and said:
“The French goalkeeper continues to suggest this might well be the breakthrough campaign which catches eyes around Europe’s top table. A series of brilliant saves impressed against Chelsea, Brighton and Everton.”
TIF thoughts on Illan Meslier and Leeds…
As mentioned before, it’s not as if this is Meslier’s breakthrough season in regards to getting into the senior side – after all, he has played all but three league games over the past three seasons.
But instead, in the eyes of Cross, this will be the campaign where top teams start to notice these displays. In fairness to the young goalkeeper, he did stand out for his recent display against Chelsea.
Indeed, according to SofaScore, he earned a 7.7 match rating as Leeds beat the Blues 3-0, while he kept a clean sheet and made three saves in order to do so.
Seeing as he still has a contract that runs until 2025, Leeds fans need not worry about his future that soon but a few transfer rumours may start to pop up in the near future if he continues to impress.
