YouTuber Conor McGilligan has predicted Leeds United will be in a bidding war for Cody Gakpo after a January transfer update emerged.
Over the summer, the Whites looked extremely keen on signing the PSV winger, and may well have done so but for a late intervention from Netherlands manager Louis van Gaal.
Despite that failed move, according to trusted transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Leeds will go back in for Gakpo upon the opening of the winter window.
However, if they do want to sign the forward, McGilligan has claimed that it will be a big ask, with the likes of Southampton and Chelsea linked with the player, too.
When talking about the possible deal on the One Leeds Fan Channel, he explained: “Apparently, according to Fabrizio Romano, probably the biggest update in this video, Leeds United are planning for a return bid for Cody Gakpo in the winter window.
“Apparently, according to Fabrizio Romano, he’s Leeds United’s main target and we will be returning for him in the January opener.
TIF Thoughts on Cody Gakpo and Leeds United…
According to CaughtOffside, Chelsea and Arsenal been linked to the PSV forward, so it will be interesting to see if those links are rekindled this winter.
On top of that, as mentioned by McGilligan, Southampton have been chasing the player recently, too – with Sky Sports reporting the Saints had a £21m bid rejected for Gakpo.
Leeds certainly seem keen on the 23-year-old, but they clearly aren’t the only ones. And so, much like there was plenty of competition in the summer, it feels as though we could be on for a repeat in January.
