Journalist Conor McGilligan has slammed Leeds United majority owner Andrea Radrizzani after his ’embarrassing’ tweet.
On deadline day, the Italian took to social media to provide a transfer update for fans as he claimed that they should ‘welcome’ Bamba Dieng – even though he had not officially joined yet – and stated that the club were still working on Cody Gakpo.
In the end, no deal got across the line. Most embarrassingly, Dieng had been at an airport waiting to fly to Leeds but then had a change of heart, opting to stay in France in hopes of a move to Nice (which fell through as well).
On top of that, Gakpo reportedly also snubbed a move to the Premier League outfit despite also having the chance to fly over to complete his move.
In the face of the humiliation, McGilligan urged someone to take Radrizzani’s phone off him, and slammed him for his behaviour on the day.
Speaking on the One Leeds Fan Channel, the journalist said: “It gets even more embarrassing. Andrea Radrizzani starts tweeting fans. Someone just take that guy’s phone off him – you know the owner of Leeds United, that’s not what we want to be seeing.
“Tweeting fans saying we’re going for Bamba Dieng, fair enough. Which he shouldn’t really be saying that on social media in my opinion.
“Anyway, welcome Bamba Dieng, is what he said. And we’re going to be pressing for Cody Gakpo. Well, that’s rubbish because Cody Gakpo already rejected Leeds at that point – by seriously trusted sources, he’d rejected Leeds.”

Interestingly enough, this is not the first time Radrizzani has caused some drama at Leeds with his questionable use of social media.
Indeed, back in 2020, he was criticised for his behaviour towards pundit Karen Carney – having potentially incited abuse towards her – after she stated the Whites only won promotion to the Premier League ‘because of Covid’.
He did, at least, admit to his latest mistake in a fresh Tweet, explaining it is all just part of the deadline day ‘madness’ and that these errors happen ‘even to the best ones’.
It certainly seems as though he could be better served staying off Twitter if he wants to avoid any more online embarrassment, but it remains to be seen as to whether or not he learns from any mistakes of the past.
