According to journalist Graham Smyth, Leeds United starlet, Alfie McCalmont, has no future at the club at the Premier League level but could fit in the Championship or League One.
While spending nearly £100m in the summer window this summer, the Whites have done well with their outgoings as they have sent many promising young talents on loan to the Championship.
Players like Tyler Roberts, Charlie Cresswell, Jamie Shackleton, and Ian Poveda have all gone on loan. Still, one player who failed to secure a move and simultaneously break into the Leeds first team is midfielder McCalmont.
As a result of this failure to move him on, Smyth recently claimed that while there is a player there, the 22-year-old has no future at the Yorkshire club at the Premier League level.
He said on the Inside Elland Road podcast, “I’m not sure there’s the future for him at Leeds. I don’t know that there’s a Premier League future for him at Leeds, but I definitely think there’s a, you know, League One possibly even Championship future for Alfie McCalmont at the minute you know, players can always surprise you and far exceed the expectations you put on them. But I definitely think there’s a real player there.”

McCalmont has been forced to play in the left-back role this season in his only start in the Premier League Two for the academy side, where he picked up a gal in the 5-1 thrashing of Nottingham Forest U21s.
Last season the midfielder enjoyed a successful loan at Morecambe in League One where he grabbed one goal and two assists in 31 games across all competitions and was able to play in his natural position of central midfield, while also featuring as an attacking and defensive midfielder.
At 22 you would think McCalmont would have broken into the Leeds first team in some capacity by now if he was ever going to. They are now wasting his career and talent at left-back for their U21 side. They need to find a move for him, it is only fair to both the player and the club.
