Leeds United have been branded as a “dull” side to watch by Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson ahead of their game at Elland Road on Sunday.

Jesse Marsch’s men return to Premier League action this weekend and Merson has been speaking to Sportskeeda to provide his thoughts on how this latest round of games will pan out.

Leeds return to action after the international break sat in 11th spot of the Premier League table with eight points to their name, four clear of West Ham United, who are currently slumped in 18th.

Marsch’s side, however, make their return having not played since 3rd September where they tasted a heavy defeat against Brentford.

And it is apparent Merson has not been left impressed with what he has seen from the West Yorkshire side, with the Sky Sports man ripping into Leeds ahead of their clash against Aston Villa on Sunday.

Backing the Whites to secure a score draw, he said: “Leeds are a bit dull at the moment, and this is a big game for them. If they lose this game, their good start goes out the window. Neither team has played particularly well so far this season.”

TIF Thoughts on Merson’s comments…

We have to disagree with Merson’s comments and think he mustn’t have watched the game earlier in the season when Leeds demolished Chelsea at Elland Road.

Do you think Leeds will beat Villa?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Whites are also eighth in the Premier League for most goals scored this season with a return of 10, which is a lot more positive than the likes of Wolves and West Ham United with just three.

The season is still young and Leeds did see a large number of players come through the door over the summer, so any serious criticism does feel slightly premature.

Even if Leeds are seen as a “dull” team to watch, fans will be more concerned by results, and with Patrick Bamford sidelined through injury, we think it has been a satisfactory start to the 2022/23 season.

And any match with Marsch on the sidelines is unlikely to be a boring watch, with the American one of the more animated figures in the Premier League.
