Leeds United have been handed a blow in their hopes of signing the winger Cody Gakpo in the upcoming transfer windows.

This has been suggested by the transfer guru Dean Jones who has been speaking to GiveMeSport about the future of the PSV Eindhoven gem.

The Whites were heavily linked with a potential move for the 23-year-old in the summer with the Yorkshire club even scheduling a flight to bring him over to England.

However, a potential deal fell through on deadline day with Gakpo choosing to listen to Louis van Gaal’s advice ahead of this winter’s World Cup.

And after an impressive start to the new campaign in the Eredivisie for PSV, Jones has questioned whether Gakpo will now be targeting a move to a bigger club:

“I’ll be amazed if Cody Gakpo ended up going to Southampton or Leeds right now given: one, the clubs he was linked with last summer by the end of the window, and two, the way that he’s started this season with PSV,” said Jones.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

This will certainly comes as a big blow for Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani, who stated his plan to ‘continue to work’ on a move for Cody Gakpo.

It certainly has been an impressive start to the new campaign for Gakpo having returned 19 goal involvements in his opening 13 appearances across all competitions.

Do you think Gakpo would come to Leeds?

There is still the belief Leeds will look to make a move for the Dutchman when January comes around but there will definitely be question marks over whether he would be open to that move.

He has also been in fine form for his country which could grab the attention of a lot of clubs ahead of the window if he is able to carry that form into the World Cup.
