Everton could potentially sign Aston Villa and England striker Ollie Watkins before the transfer window shuts this evening.

That is according to journalist Simon Phillips, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the Toffees’ potential deadline day business on the final day of the transfer window.

It had been reported by Football Insider in August that Everton were prepared to make a move for the signing of Watkins this summer.

However, there have been no significant developments on the move since that report, with Frank Lampard’s side going on to secure the signing of Brighton and Hove Albion striker Neal Maupay later in the month.

Despite the stage of the transfer window we’re currently at, Phillips believes that there is still a chance that Watkins could end up at Goodison Park by the end of the day.

“Ollie Watkins, by the way, I’m definitely not ruling out.

“I think he’s still on the table, and I think Villa would be open to selling him.

“There’s something there with him and Steven Gerrard.

“I’m not sure they completely see eye-to-eye, so that one, I think, could still be done.”

TIF Thoughts on Phillips’ comments…

We believe that Everton fans would be delighted if they could secure the signing of the 26-year-old, who has previously been described as “unbelievable” by former Villa manager Dean Smith.

The seven-time England international, who has been described as a ‘top player’, has taken to Premier League football like a duck to water since his 2020 arrival at Villa Park for an initial £28m, scoring 26 goals and providing nine assists in 77 appearances according to Transfermarkt.

Therefore, we think that Lampard would be going a long way to solve his current striker crisis if he was to secure the signing of the Villa star by the time the window shuts this evening.
