Journalist Mark Douglas has claimed that Everton’s decision not to sell Anthony Gordon amid transfer interest is ‘bold’.

On Tuesday evening, the winger did his best to prove all the speculation around him isn’t an issue as he bagged his side’s only goal in their  Premier League draw.

Indeed, Gordon started and scored against Leeds United amid reports that Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea have been chasing him with real intent.

According to a report from i News, now though, Everton won’t be selling the Englishman despite talk of a £60m bid – with Frank Lampard telling reporters he is ‘very confident’ that a sale won’t be made.

In reaction to these quotes, Douglas took to Twitter to say: “Everton have decided to stick – despite what might be the pinnacle of Anthony Gordon’s valuation. It’s a bold decision when someone is offering £60m.”

TIF Thoughts on Anthony Gordon and Everton…

With two goals to his name already this season, it’s not hard to see why some top clubs are eyeing up the talented 21-year-old. However, he is still in the infancy of his career having only really broken into the senior Everton team last term, and so the idea of getting £60m for a relatively unproven player must have been a real temptation.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why Douglas has argued it is a ‘bold’ move of Lampard to keep hold of the player and gamble on him being worth more than that to the Toffees this season.

In fairness, considering the club was so close to being relegated last season – and having not started the new campaign in the best of form (with three points from five games) – it would be a huge risk to sell a star player right at the end of the transfer market.
