Everton and Ukraine full-back Vitalii Mykolenko has been ranked as Everton’s worst performing player over the past month.

That is according to the CIES Football Observatory’s player rankings, which rates players on a match-by-match basis using data from OptaPro.

With a rating of 66/100 for his performances in the league over the past month, it seems the 23-year-old has not played at the required standard over the Toffees’ last four matches.

But is Mykolenko worthy of this ranking within the Everton side, or has the stats outlet been harsh on the left-back’s displays? We take a look…

The former Dynamo Kyiv full-back has played in all but four minutes of Frank Lampard’s side’s last few games according to Transfermarkt, suggesting that the former Chelsea manager is happy to back him in his favoured left-back spot.

Despite not providing a goal or assist, the 27-cap Ukraine full-back has helped the side keep two clean sheets in two of the last four matches, conceding just twice in that period. Their last outing – a 1-0 win over West Ham United – was the Toffees’ first league victory of the season.

Immediately, we think that criticisms over Mykolenko’s performances already seem to be quite harsh, with the Ukrainian mainly completing the primary task he has been set out to do in keeping the ball out of the back of his own net.

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

Looking at SofaScore’s data, it appears the left-back – who signed for Everton in a deal that could reportedly rise to £17mhas shown a steady improvement over the course of the last four Premier League games, earning a 6.5 match rating in the club’s clash with Brentford at the end of August, before a rise to 7.8 in last week’s aforementioned victory over West Ham.

The full-back, who has been described as “fantastic” by Liverpool Echo’s Adam Jones, earned himself that impressive rating against the Irons after a performance which included two interceptions, five tackles, and winning 5/6 ground duels, suggesting that the Ukraine star was exceptional in that game.

Again, WhoScored suggests that Mykolenko has been solid if not spectacular over the club’s last four fixtures, with the Cherkasy-born left-back’s rating never dropping below 6.38.

Therefore, while we think that the full-back could potentially aim to be a more effective attacking presence for Lampard on the left flank, he has been solid defensively, and to be rated as the worst-performing Everton player in the squad seems to be a little harsh.
