Tony Scott has been speaking on the All Together Now podcast about how Everton may look to bring in a striker next year.

Everton did pull off some decent business during the summer transfer window with the likes of James Tarkowski, Conor Coady and Amadou Onana arriving to help bolster the options Frank Lampard has to pick from.

However, after losing last season’s top scorer Richarlsion to Tottenham Hotspur, it doesn’t appear that Everton have replaced his goals with the only attacking options added being Dwight McNeil and Neal Maupay and between them, they’ve only once hit double figures in the Premier League.

Therefore, Scott believes that if a striker becomes available around the January transfer window, Kevin Thelwell and Lampard will move for one.

“So, the centre forward thing is here to there in my opinion, yes it would have been great to get one, but if you look at it in the long term, if one pops up at Christmas, I’m sure Thelwell and Lampard will be all over it. But, if it doesn’t happen then, it may happen next summer.”

TIF Thoughts on Everton’s centre-forward need…

It’s quite clear given that Everton are the league’s third-lowest scores thus far, that bringing in a centre forward that was reliable, something Maupay isn’t with just one double-digit league haul to his name in the top flight, would have been a good idea.

However, Lampard has been left with Maupay, a 32-year-old Salomon Rondon with one Premier League goal to his name since 2019 when he was playing for Newcastle United and an injury-prone Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Therefore, it would make sense for Thelwell and Lampard to already be lining up and securing potential striker targets ahead of the January transfer window, or even potentially keeping their options open as to where or not they move for someone that bursts onto the scene at the World Cup.
