Dean Jones has admitted on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel that he doesn’t trust Everton to become a consistent side.
Everton managed to get their season up and running on Sunday afternoon as they picked up their first win of the campaign at home to West Ham with Neal Maupay’s goal enough to seal all three points.
It may well have been a result that was surely coming for the Toffees as they are now on an unbeaten run which stretches back to six games in all competitions and now also sees them boast the second-best defensive record in the Premier League.
However, Jones is still not convinced by Everton and believes they will struggle once again this season.
“Finally, it looks like they’re starting to have something about them this team, I haven’t really been sure about their identity, I wasn’t sure whether Frank Lampard had the capability to get a new rhythm out of this side I guess.
Is Lampard the right manager for Everton?
“It has been a struggle there’s no doubt about it and I think they’ll struggle again at some point I don’t trust in the consistency yet.”
TIF Thoughts on Everton under Lampard…
It’s fair enough that Jones doesn’t yet fully trust Everton and Lampard last season it took them until the penultimate day to secure their Premier League safety and it’s also taken them until mid-September to get their first league win of the season.
While it was a good win against a West Ham side who finished inside the European places last season, the Hammers are lingering inside the bottom three and have scored the fewest goals out of any team in the league thus far.
Also, out of Everton’s next four fixtures after the international break, three of them are against sides that are sitting considerably above them in the league table and three of them are away from home, so it’s no surprise that Jones is still very coy over Everton and the consistency under Lampard.
