Tony Scott has heaped praise on Neal Maupay after his winning goal for Everton last weekend while speaking on the All Together Now podcast.

Frank Lampard will have been delighted on Sunday afternoon, not just because Everton picked up their first three points of the season, but because his summer signings stood out and made a difference with Maupay netting the winning goal while Conor Coady and James Tarkowski managed to keep a clean sheet.

It’s the Frenchman who appears to be attracting the most amount of praise for his instinctive finish from the edge of the box and Scott has even compared the striker to Everton club legend and third all-time top scorer in the Premier League, Tim Cahill.

Scott has compared Maupay to Cahill mainly for his tenacity and nastiness on the pitch.

“What I like about him is he reminds me of Tim Cahill in so many ways, just in his tenacity, his off-the-ball movement, his nastiness, everything I love him and one thing I like about him Greg more than anything is that he’s never stood still, you’ll never ever see him standing.”

TIF Thoughts on Maupay…

It is a huge comparison from Scott and one that will surely be a massive confidence booster to Maupay because if he can get anywhere near the 56 Premier League goals that Cahill scored he will go down as a top player for the Toffees.

The French striker only cost Everton £15 million over the summer with his nose seemingly pushed out the picture at Brighton and Everton will seemingly only be too happy to have him within their ranks, especially given Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s injury woes of late.

Which of these Serie A stars did the Toffees miss out on?

While the comparison to Cahill will be a great one for Maupay to receive, he still has a long way to go if he’s to reach the Australian’s heights, especially given he’s had two very different performances at Goodison Park, obviously netting the winner on Sunday but he did also miss a golden one-on-one chance in the Merseyside derby, showing he may well be a rather inconsistent goalscorer.
