Image for Everton: Leventhal claims Pedro not likely to leave despite bid

According to Adam Leventhal from The Athletic, Everton target Joao Pedro is unlikely to leave his club despite the Toffees submitting a recent bid for the forward.

It looks like Everton are still looking to add depth to their squad on deadline day, specifically to their attacking positions as they have now been linked with a move for promising young forward, Joao Pedro.

It has been reported they have offered Watford £25m plus £5m add-ons to bring the Brazilian to the club before the summer transfer window slams shut on Thursday night at 11 pm, however, it has been rejected.

While the club could look to make another offer, Leventhal revealed on the Athletic Dead Day Live show that he would be very surprised if a deal for the player got done today despite their interest in the last 24 hours.

He said, “As it stands, although I know Ismaila Sarr’s representatives may well still be pushing for a deal today, nothing is moving at the moment. And for Joao Pedro, I know that there’s been a report online regarding Everton making a bid over the last 24 hours.

“I haven’t got anything to suggest there is anything in that at the moment… I would be very, very surprised if Joao Pedro would go anywhere.”

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

This looks to be the unfortunate truth for Everton as it was recently reported Watford are not going to allow Pedro or Sarr to leave before the window closes due to the lateness of the deal.

TIF Thoughts on Pedro to Everton…

Despite the fact Pedro has impressed for Watford in the Championship so far this season with two goals and two assists in six games, I think Everton have dodged a bullet by not being able to sign him, at the time of writing.

Last season, he was not impressive in the Premier League as he only managed four goals and one assist in 28 top-flight appearances. Not only is his form a worry, but the price the club wants for him is also concerning.

Watford previously sold Emmanuel Dennis to Nottingham Forest for £20m, who picked up 10 goals and six assists in the Premier League last season. While Pedro is four years younger, he is still unproven at the top level and so the £35m price tag is ludicrous.

Everton cannot afford to have another expensive player flop and Pedro is no guarantee. It would be much wiser for them to go for a more proven and experienced player to help them avoid relegation.
