Journalist Dean Jones has cast doubt over a potential deadline day move to Crystal Palace for Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher enjoyed a breakout campaign in south London last season at Selhurst Park scoring eight goals and providing three assists in 34 Premier League appearances leading Eagles boss Patrick Vieira into calling him a ‘manager’s dream’.

According to The Times, Palace made a £27m bid to Chelsea to bring the Epson-born midfielder to the club on a permanent basis.

Gallagher was sent off against Leicester City as he made his second consecutive start for the Blues last weekend and with it appearing that he is in Thomas Tuchel’s plans at Stamford Bridge, Jones doesn’t expect a move to SE25 to materialise despite the logic behind a move.

Speaking to This is Futbol, he said:

Do you think Gallagher will sign for Palace?

“I think Gallagher to Crystal Palace probably makes the most sense at this stage but that still doesn’t mean that it’s likely to happen.”

Where did Crystal Palace sign these players from, let's start with an easy one! Osdonne Edouard

Gallagher received his first England call-up as a result of his fine form last and regular playing time at Palace would enhance the likelihood that he is included in the Three Lions World Cup squad this winter.

However, it would appear that Vieira will have to make do without the 22-year-old dynamo which could be an issue.

Only Wilfried Zaha (14) scored more than the midfielder’s eight league goals last term and with Zaha already netting four of the club’s six goals this season the lack of potency from elsewhere may hinder the side’s progression.
