Aston Villa could be looking to add a striker in the 2023 summer transfer window.

That is according to BirminghamLive reporter Ashley Preece, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the latest news from Villa Park.

Despite making seven signings this summer, Steven Gerrard’s side decided against recruiting a striker by the end of the transfer window, with the club still having the same options at their disposal as last year.

However, it seems that the side lack a cutting edge in the final third, with the West Midlands giants scoring just six Premier League goals this season, ranking them as the league’s joint third-lowest scorers.

And Preece believes that Villa may look to add another striker next summer as the club look to push themselves towards the European places in the near future.

He said: “The striker situation interests me.

“Danny Ings, he’s entering the final year of his contract next season. Cameron Archer, I think he needs a loan in January as well, so I think a new number nine could be forthcoming next summer.

“I think Ollie Watkins has done well, but I think they need a 20-goal-a-season man. Any club with hopes of finishing in the top six or seven needs a 20-goal striker.”

TIF Thoughts on Preece’s comments…

We think that Villa are desperately lacking a striker who can get them at least 15 goals a season, with Ollie Watkins being the club’s top scorer last season, hitting 11 Premier League strikes.

Meanwhile, Danny Ings has struggled to adapt to life at Villa Park since his £25m move from Southampton in the summer of 2021, having scored just eight Premier League goals during his time in the West Midlands.

Therefore, we think it would make sense if Gerrard was to push the club to provide him with a top-class centre-forward next season.
