Tottenham Hotspur forward Dejan Kulusevski could be deployed in a new position after his recent comments to Alasdair Gold.

The reliable Spurs correspondent was speaking on his YouTube channel about Spurs’ transfer plans and discussed the possibility of the Swede playing in a central attacking role.

Spurs are reportedly in the market for an attacking playmaker in the final weeks of this summer’s transfer window having already brought in six – soon to be seven – new additions.

And reports suggest AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo is the player that Antonio Conte and Fabio Paratici have in mind to potentially join the Lilywhites in the coming weeks.

But Gold believes failing to add in this position may not be the worst thing to happen after what their Swedish winger, Kulusevski, had previously told him:

(32:20) “It’s a funny one, I think I said this before as well, [in] Conte’s system, the number tens are different. They’re not the normal kind of number tens. They’re not your bog standard sit-in-the-middle kind of number ten. They’re number tens that can also go out wide.

“So you’ve got to be quite a specific kind of attacking midfielder. Kane can certainly play that role. Kulusevski told me that that’s his favourite role so he can play there as well.”

TIF Thoughts on Gold’s comments…

We think this could be a really interesting option for Conte. For a start, Kulusevski has already proven himself to be one of Tottenham’s most prolific outlets in attack having racked up 15 goal involvements in his 19 Premier League appearances, so to know that Spurs may have the man to fill a potential creative role is rather exciting.

Would you like to see Kulusevski through the middle?

With Richarlison now available after his suspension, there is going to be an interesting battle for the spot at right-wing between him and Kulusevski.

However, we do wonder whether, if Spurs struggle to break a side down, Conte could change up the formation and play a three of Son Heung-min, Kulusevski and Richarlison behind Harry Kane.

Conte has typically played with a back three throughout his career but with Spurs sometimes failing to break through lesser teams last season we’d be interested to see if this formation tweak could work during the game.

Kulusevski has certainly shown his ability to create goal opportunities from a central position in the past which will only strengthen Conte’s attacking options.
