Rangers will receive a “massive boost” if they can keep Ryan Kent and get him to sign a new contract this summer.

That is the opinion of journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest at Ibrox as the club head into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Kent had been linked with a move to the English Premier League back in May, with the 25-year-old having just one year remaining on his current contract at Ibrox this summer.

However, according to Rangers boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst, last season’s Europa League runners-up are in the process of offering both Kent and Colombian striker Alfredo Morelos a new deal this summer.

Asked what it would mean for the Gers to extend Kent’s stay at Ibrox, O’Rourke stated they would be building “foundations for continued success” by tying Kent down to a new deal at the club this summer.

He said: “A massive boost if they can keep Ryan Kent.

“We know how important he is to Rangers.

“He’s been vital for them for the last couple of seasons, winning the league a couple of years ago, and then also that run to the Europa League final, he was outstanding.

“Tying down your best players is how you can build your foundations for continued success.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments…

We believe that Rangers fans will agree with O’Rourke, and would be delighted if the 25-year-old was to sign a new long-term deal at Ibrox.

According to SofaScore, the former Liverpool man averaged a rating of 7.08 for his performances in the Europa League last season, ranking him the third-best performer out of the Rangers squad in Europe, suggesting that he can perform to an excellent standard on the big stage.

Therefore, we believe that Ibrox chiefs should be doing everything they possibly can to secure Kent’s long-term future on the blue side of Glasgow, as the club look to wrestle the Premiership title off Celtic this season.
