Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed on The Spurs Watch’s latest Twitter Space that Rangers are interested in Harry Winks.

Rangers have made a solid start to the season having won all three of their league games and overcome a 2-0 deficit in the Champions League, which saw them take a big step toward the group stages.

However, with a game against PSV Eindhoven now on the horizon in Europe and some close encounters thus far in the SPFL, Giovanni van Bronckhorst looks keen to make some further additions this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur’s Winks said to be of interest to the Gers.

Jacobs has confirmed that Rangers are indeed interested in Winks, although they aren’t alone.

He said: “Everyone accepts that signing him at the moment is a little bit of a gamble.

“It’s one that could pay off, but there isn’t a huge amount of tangible advanced interest.

“I know that Rangers have looked at him, I know that a few clubs in the [English] Championship have made enquiries; I think Winks feels that he can still play in the top tier somewhere. There’s some growing interest now in Italy as well.”

TIF Thoughts on interest in Winks…

While the thought of signing someone of Winks’ pedigree and experience in the Premier League and Champions League may seem good in principle, Rangers are already bloated in the centre of midfield, so some may have to be moved on first.

Winks, who was dubbed as ‘amazing’ by Mauricio Pochettino, could perhaps turn out to be a sensible piece of business for the Gers judging by his ball retention, which saw him rack up the seventh-best pass completion rate out of Spurs players to have started a league game last term (as per FBref)

However, Spurs may need to lower their reported £25m asking price given Rangers have only signed one player for more than £5m since 2005, as per Transfermarkt.

How well do you remember where Rangers' signings came in from down the years? Take our quiz to find out! First up, Carlos Pena was the Gers' most expensive arrival during the summer of 2017, but where did he join from?

So it wouldn’t likely be a signing that gets fans off their seats at Ibrox, however, his ability to keep things ticking over in midfield may well bring about more attacking options and the ability for others to get further forward and make an impact in the final third.
