Rangers Review writer Jonny McFarlane has claimed that the club have not received any offers for Fashion Sakala, despite reports.

It was reported on Wednesday that English Championship side Burnley were preparing to test the Gers’ resolve for the attacker with a £3m bid being prepared by Vincent Kompany’s side.

Sakala is a familiar face to the former Manchester City captain having run into each other in Belgium in recent seasons while playing for Oostende, and it is thought the Turf Moor outfit are in for a forward, with the 18-cap Zambia star firmly on their radar.

However, McFarlane has dismissed the links, and claims executives at Ibrox are yet to hear from the Lancashire club.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel, he said: “I checked in with contacts at Rangers just to see if this would be news to them, if there would be anything in this.

“It was a pretty firm, ‘we’ve not had any contact with Burnley whatsoever and we’re quite surprised to hear this story break’, so it was kind of news to them.

“I’m not saying that Burnley won’t make a bid, but I would be surprised if that goes anywhere.”

Should Sakala be playing for Rangers?

The 25-year-old scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 50 games last term despite just 18 of those appearances being starts, but his game time looks like being even further restricted this term following the raft of arrivals in attacking areas this summer.

He is yet to feature for the Bears this term, and after not being included in the squad against Kilmarnock last weekend, he was an unused substitute in Tuesday night’s 3-0 victory in Europe over Union Saint-Gilloise.

It does seem like the £8.3k-per-week ace will be on the fringes of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s thinking, and if a bid were to come in this summer, it would be interesting to see how the club would react.
