Rangers and Zambia striker Fashion Sakala may be looking at a move away from Ibrox this summer.

That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Gers’ transfer plans heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst has welcomed seven new signings to the club this season, including the attacking signings of Malik Tillman, Tom Lawrence, Rabbi Matondo and Antonio Colak.

That means Sakala, who was labelled a “firework” by former Rangers defender Alan Hutton, could possibly have up to nine other senior competitors for those forward spots this season.

Asked whether Rangers could be seeking an exit for the striker, O’Rourke believes that Sakala could actively be looking to leave the club himself in search of more guaranteed first-team football somewhere else.

He said: “I think it’s probably maybe more Sakala’s looking for an exit.

“He’s maybe seen his path to the first team at Ibrox blocked with the incomings this summer of Colak and the boy from Germany who’s of Bayern Munich, Tillman. So maybe he’s thinking he might not get many first-team opportunities at the club this year.

“Maybe he thinks best to go out and play regular first-team football.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We think that Rangers fans will be unsurprised by O’Rourke’s update, with the 25-year-old having not played a single minute of competitive action for Van Bronckhorst’s side so far this season.

The 18-time Zambia international scored 12 goals and provided seven assists in 50 appearances for the Glasgow giants last season, suggesting that he could provide a useful amount of goals across a full campaign.

However, we think that due to the vast amount of attacking numbers at the club this season, it might be in the club and player’s best interests to part ways before the window is out.
