John Hartson has claimed that it is huge for Rangers that Alfredo Morelos is looking like he will remain at Ibrox this summer.

Reports had claimed Morelos could be on his way out this summer as his contract runs down, with the main clubs interested in him being Sevilla and Aston Villa.

But as we head towards the latter stages of the window, he remains a Rangers player, while Giovanni van Bronckhorst was fairly upbeat about his situation recently, claiming talks were ‘ongoing‘.

Morelos missed the back end of last season due to injury woes, but his form before his injury was impressive as he found the back of the net 12 times and chipped in with seven assists in 26 Scottish Premiership games.

With Morelos looking as if he will remain in Glasgow, Hartson spoke on The Go Radio Football Show and claimed that it is huge that he appears set to stay at the Scottish Premiership side.

He said: “It’s huge. There’s still a month in the transfer window yet. There is plenty of time yet, I don’t know what Morelos is thinking himself – is he fancying a move? You’ve now got other players, they’ve brought in Lawrence, Matondo; Scott Wright can play up there.

“If you’re a Rangers man, you want him to stay, because he’s a very good player.”

TIF Thoughts on John Hartson’s comments…

Morelos was vital for Rangers last season, and the Europa League final could have gone a different way if they had their Colombian forward fit and playing in the game, so it is key for Van Bronckhorst to keep him.

However, the Dutch manager might either look to tie him down to a new deal or cash in on him this summer, as he has entered the final 12 months of his contract, so if he wishes to leave the club at the end of next summer he will be able to do so on a free transfer, which is surely something the club would prefer to avoid.

Given Morelos’ form under Van Bronckhorst, a full season under his tutelage should be exciting, and with Rangers looking to prosper domestically and in Europe once again, you would imagine the Colombian’s availability will be central to their chances of success.

If they fail in champions league he will go with kent but it wont be for mega bucks thats why there leaving it till late should have held on to aribo and bassey till after they qualifiers were over but had to grab the money for more players. New players have no time to settle a loan player from bayern’s reserves is there top playmaker and he cant last 45 minutes might get there money back for kent morelus £15,000,000if lucky but id say £10,000,000 they will take it or they are going to to have to unhappy players then again cant see a team risking injuries to players there going to buy so might be no takers nut it willntake more than two players to sort out mess especailly at back id say need to score 4 because union will score morelus hasnt played for months no way he will play
