Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou would suffer a big blow if the club were to let full-back Josip Juranovic leave this summer.

That is according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest from Celtic Park, heading into the final few weeks of the transfer window.

Juranovic has been linked with a move down south from Scotland this summer, with Manchester United and Chelsea rumoured to be targeting the Croatian full-back, after Atletico Madrid were also linked with a move earlier in the window.

However, the Glasgow giants have had no formal bid submitted for the 27-year-old, and Postecoglou is not thought to be worried about the 20-time Croatia international leaving the club this summer.

And O’Rourke believes that Postecoglou wants to keep Juranovic, with the Australian manager wanting his best players available for this season’s Champions League campaign.

“It’d be a big blow if they were to lose Juranovic.

“He was a very key player for Celtic last year in helping them win the SPL title and also qualify for the Champions League.

“I think Postecoglou wants to keep hold of his best players as they prepare for the Champions League and Juranovic showed that he was a very key performer for him.

“He could play right-back, left-back, in several positions as well.”

TIF Thoughts on O’Rourke’s comments

We agree with O’Rourke in that Juranovic was a key player for Celtic last season, and the Parkhead club should be doing everything in their power to keep him.

The Zagreb-born right-back, who has previously been described as “outstanding” by Ally McCoist made 35 appearances for Postecoglou’s side last season, scoring five goals and providing two assists according to Transfermarkt, as Celtic marched their way to regaining the Premiership title back off city rivals Rangers.

We believe Juranovic’s consistent presence in the side last season proves how much of an asset he is to Postecoglou, and therefore we believe the Celtic hierarchy should be backing their manager by trying to keep Juranovic at the club for the coming season.
