Celtic are still interested in signing Bristol City striker Antoine Semenyo.

That’s according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, who has claimed that the Hoops have been ‘keeping tabs’ on the 22-year-old for an extended period.

The Robins are believed to have already turned down a £9m proposal from an unknown suitor this summer, with an offer in the region of £15m more likely to be accepted by the Championship side, according to The Mirror.

His agent Tony Finnigan told FootballScotland that the Premiership winners are huge admirers and claimed that scout Craig Strachan had touched base over a potential move.

Now, O’Rourke believes that even if the Bhoys fail to bring the forward in this window, they will continue to track his progress with a view to a move in the future.

He told GiveMeSport: “If it doesn’t happen during this summer transfer window, he is probably somebody who might re-emerge on the scene for the January transfer window.

“Celtic have been keeping tabs on him for a while and I’m sure that will continue.”

At present, Ange Postecoglou has two star strikers in Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis, who netted 37 goals between them last season – but perhaps adding Semenyo, who is likely to have some resale value, wouldn’t be a bad piece of business.

The one-cap Ghana international enjoyed by far and away the best campaign of his career so far last term as he scored eight goals and provided 12 assists in 31 Championship matches, and while injured until September, it will be interesting to see whether his career continues to prosper and if Celtic do decide to add more firepower by bringing in the promising youngster.
