Football Daily presenter Joe Thomlinson has revealed that he is ‘concerned’ for Wolves this season, claiming that they are set for a dismal campaign.

Wolves’ season got off to a nightmare start to the new season, losing 2-1 despite initially taking an early lead courtesy of Daniel Podence.

A Leeds United equaliser from Rodrigo gave the Yorkshire club the chance to find a winner, and they did exactly that, with Rayan Ait-Nouri forced to turn a cross into the back of his own net.

Discussing his Premier League predictions prior to the defeat, however, Thomlinson shared his concern for Wolves, saying on Football Daily: “I’ve got my first manager to be sacked as Bruno Lage.

“I’m concerned about Wolves. I think they had one win in nine at the back end of last season. I don’t think there’s a huge amount of fan sentiment towards Bruno Lage despite the fact he had a really good opening half of last season.”

TIF Thoughts on Wolves…

Following a summer of just two new arrivals – one of which was returning loanee Hwang Hee-chan on a permanent deal – we’d have to agree with Thomlinson’s concern for Wolves. They enjoyed a fairly comfortable season last time out, finishing 10th, but football can change in an instant.

Considering the fact that the likes of Leeds, who Wolves lost to on the opening day, strengthened significantly by bringing in six new players, Bruno Lage may be left with the difficult task of managing a squad without as many additions, especially with Premier League games coming thick and fast.

What won’t help are the reports that captain Conor Coady could be on his way to Everton, according to Paul Joyce. The last thing Lage will want to see is a departure of a first-team player, let alone a player as important as his captain – albeit an ever-present one that he dropped from the starting lineup at the weekend.

The manager will desperately be hoping that his potential departure does not play a large part in the outcome of the current season.
