Wolves will surely be furious a foul on Pedro Neto did not result in a red card at the weekend – which could have shifted the tie in their favour.

The Midlands side failed to pull themselves out of the bottom three after they only managed to pick up a point in their last Premier League game, despite going 1-0 up through a wonder-strike from Ruben Neves.

However, they conceded a late 90th-minute equaliser that could have possibly been avoided if Newcastle United had received a red card after defender Fabian Schar caught Neto with a studs-up challenge early in the second half.

TIF Thoughts on the red card…

The challenge was initially met with a yellow but VAR intervened to see if it was dangerous enough for a red card to be brandished and send off the Newcastle man. It is hard to see how the red card was not shown judging by the above still of the challenge – something that the VAR officials would have seen as well.

Wolves have every right to feel hard done by and even angry that the red was not bought out. It was an evidently dangerous tackle that could have caused a serious injury. While there might not have been intent behind it as both players were going for a loose ball, Schar still went in high on the shin of Neto and therefore, could have warranted a red card.

Bruno Lage’s men did not get the rub of the green in this game. The possible red card decision went against them, a second goal was disallowed for a foul in the build-up with the score at 1-0 before conceding a last-minute stunner to Allan Saint-Maximin.

There was a lot for their fans to be angry about, but the red card could have completely changed the trajectory of the game as Newcastle may not have been attacking so much in the dying moments of the game. We feel they have every right to feel aggrieved with this result.
