Wolves are focusing on bringing in a new central midfielder to the club before the transfer window closes.

That is according to Ryan Taylor of the Daily Express, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the latest transfer news at Molineux ahead of the remaining few weeks of the window.

Bruno Lage has welcomed just two players to the club so far this summer, with the arrivals of Burnley and Republic of Ireland centre-back Nathan Collins for £20.5m and Valencia and Portugal forward Gonçalo Guedes for £27.5m.

As well as this, the club have lost the services of seven players who were in and around the first team last season.

The club have been linked with various midfielders this summer, with targets João Palhinha and Enzo Fernández moving to Fulham and Benfica respectively, whilst Sporting’s Matheus Nunes remains unconvinced over a move to Molineux.

And Taylor believes that a midfield addition is being prioritised this summer, alongside a centre-back and a striker.

He said: “Enzo Fernández was another one Wolves looked at, but didn’t happen.

“I think central midfield will still be one of priority, alongside a right-sided centre-back and striker, but Nunes is a difficult deal to do.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

We believe that Wolves fans will be happy to hear that the club are still looking to strengthen the spine of their team, following the signings of Collins and Guedes.

Lage currently has just three centre-midfielders at his disposal in Rúben Neves, João Moutinho and Leander Dendoncker as it stands, and if the head coach is keen on playing three in midfield this season, it is absolutely critical the club get more bodies through the door.

Therefore, we believe that Scott Sellars and Fosun should be doing everything they can to ensure that Wolves have a competent senior squad ahead of the transfer window’s closure on 1st September.
