Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that West Ham United have enquired about Piotr Zielinski this summer.

According to reports in Italy, West Ham have shown interest in the Polish midfielder and have submitted a bid close to £33.5m for the Napoli ace, but there has been no sign that the Serie A club have accepted the offer.

Zielinski was a mainstay in the Napoli side last term, making 42 appearances in all competitions for the Italian side and scoring eight times whilst chipping in with five assists. He still has two years remaining on his current contract.

Although the Hammers have reportedly submitted a bid for Zielinski this summer, Romano has spoken to GiveMeSport and claimed that it will not be an easy one for them to get over the line due to the players that Napoli have lost recently.

He said: “Zielinski is difficult because Napoli want at least €40m.

“They have already lost many important players; Insigne, Koulibaly, many, many key players for the team, and so Zielinski is absolutely not easy. It’s true that West Ham asked for him, but it’s not an easy one.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

West Ham have already spent just over £81m in this transfer window, so it will be interesting to see whether they continue their pursuit of Zielinski this summer if Napoli reject their reported bid for him and ask for a significantly higher fee.

David Moyes has been smart with his business this summer as he has strengthened every position through the core of the pitch, while the average age of the players he has brought in is 24.8, so he might be keen to push for Zielinski who is 28 years old and can add a bit more experience to the squad, especially at the top level, considering he has made 22 appearances in the Europa League.

And it is apparent Zielinski has received the approval of one of the most highly-regarded managers, with ex-Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti telling Radio Anch’io Sport (via Football Italia): “Zielinski is a complete midfielder, he played in all positions with me.”
