Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that West Ham United consider Hans Vanaken important so they could make an improved offer.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham United have had a bid rejected for Vanaken, with the fee set to be in the region of €10m (£8.4m), while it has been said that the player wishes to play in the Premier League.

West Ham could not have gotten off to a worse start in the Premier League, after losing their opening three games, albeit the opening fixture was against champions Manchester City.

With the Hammers having a first bid rejected for Vanaken this summer, Jones spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that those at West Ham consider him important enough to make an improved offer to make sure they get him through the door.

He said: “Vanaken is the one to really look out for, talks are ongoing, and there are indications from people at West Ham that it’s a deal considered important enough to make an improved offer now to satisfy Club Brugge.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

With the Hammers struggling so far in the Premier League, Moyes might be keen to get some new players through the door before the transfer window closes, and Vanaken could be a good option for them because he has experience playing at the highest level, making 30 appearances in the Champions League.

However, it might be considered too early to judge, because they are just three games in and have been without new signing Nayef Aguerd, who picked up an injury in pre-season, so Moyes will be hoping that he can make a difference upon his return.

West Ham have already spent just over £111m this summer, so it will be interesting to see how much more they are willing to spend on Vanaken.

But with the Hammers potentially in need of reinforcements and the player thought to be keen on a move, perhaps this is a deal Moyes should push the boat out for.
