West Ham United could join the race to sign England midfielder Conor Gallagher this summer.

That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the Irons’ potential transfer business on the final week of the transfer window.

West Ham have already signed Flynn Downes for £12m this summer, but it looks like David Moyes would like to add a midfielder with more Premier League experience in the middle of the park, in which Gallagher would fit the bill.

Crystal Palace have reportedly made a £27m offer for the Epsom-born midfielder’s services in a bid to bring him back to Selhurst Park, whilst Newcastle United are also reported to be interested in a move for the Chelsea man.

But Jones believes that West Ham would be very happy to make a move for Gallagher, even if he was only available at the last minute.

“If at the very last minute Gallagher was available, I think West Ham would be very happy to do it.

“He’s definitely been someone on their radar, so we’ll have to watch out for that one in the final days.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that Gallagher would be a fantastic signing for West Ham, and could be fine competition to Tomáš Soucek if the Irons could wrap up a deal for the midfielder this summer.

The four-time England international is capable of providing important goals from the middle of the park, having netted eight times and five assists in 39 appearances for Crystal Palace last season, according to Transfermarkt.

However, he is so much more than just a goalscorer and was a vital part of Palace’s ability to win the ball back quickly last season, shown by the fact he ranks in the top 7% of midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues and European competitions for pressures per 90 minutes (24.76) over the last 365 days according to FBref, and has been described as a “pressing machine” by Mark Duffy.

Therefore, we believe that West Ham should be all over the player, and we think that they should at least match Palace’s reported bid for the midfielder in the coming days.
