Journalist Toby Cudworth has warned that West Ham United need to sign not one but two centre-backs amid injury fears over Kurt Zouma.

As things stand, the Hammers have a number of fitness concerns at the heart of their defence. Indeed, Ben Johnson had to partner Zouma over the weekend with the likes of Nayef Aguerd, Angelo Ogbonna and Craig Dawson not fit enough to make the bench.

As a result of the crisis, it has been reported in recent times that David Moyes could go into the transfer market with the intention of signing a new defender in the coming weeks.

However, upon watching Zouma struggle in the 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Cudworth claimed that two new signings may now be needed, and suggested that the Frenchman wouldn’t even be playing if they had other options.

On Twitter, he wrote during Sunday’s game: “Am guessing that Kurt Zouma probably wouldn’t be playing if every other centre-back at WHUFC wasn’t injured. Looks like he can barely move. Never mind one CB signing, think Moyes needs two.”

TIF Thoughts on West Ham…

Considering the Hammers have lost their first two games of the new Premier League season, it’s easy to see why Cudworth feels as though reinforcements are desperately needed in the heart of defence.

At the very least, a few names have been mentioned recently. Indeed, insider Dean Jones has touted the possible signing of Aston Villa centre-back Tyrone Mings, while Sky Sports has revealed that Paris Saint-Germain duo Abdou Diallo and Thilo Kehrer are also possible targets for West Ham this summer.

It remains to be seen as to how genuine those links are, but with the Irons likely in the market for at least one new player, there could be some movement on the transfer front soon enough.
