ExWHUemployee has revealed that transfer rumours linking West Ham United with a move for Hwang Ui-jo are ‘premature’ at this stage.

According to Bordeaux manager David Guion (via Girondins4ever), the 29-year-old is now ‘likely to leave’ this summer.

This had led to plenty of speculation that he could end up joining the Hammers in the near future. However, according to Ex, any talk of a transfer is ‘likely to be inaccurate’ at this stage.

Indeed, while posting an update to The West Ham Way Patreon page, the club insider explained that the South Korean has been on recruitment head Rob Newman’s radar, but a move isn’t expected.

In full, he said: “Whilst West Ham have always been keen to bring in a top-quality Asian footballer due to not only their footballing ability but the marketing power too, reports of Hwang Ui-jo joining us from Bordeaux appear to be very premature and likely to be inaccurate.

“The player is not currently in talks with the club, although he has been on Rob Newman’s radar. A move to West Ham at this point is not expected.”

TIF Thoughts on Hwang Ui-jo and West Ham…

It is interesting that West Ham do seem to be looking at bringing in a ‘top-quality Asian footballer’ due to the potential impact on and off the pitch.

The club were also recently linked with Japan international Daichi Kamada, who currently plays for Eintracht Frankfurt – so that could well be a genuine strategy, just as Ex suggests.

However, a deal for Hwang at this stage does not seem that credible after this latest update. And with MLS club Minnesota United recently making a bid for the striker, it looks like that could be a more realistic transfer for the South Korean, despite Bordeaux rejecting their initial advances.
