Presenter Dan Lawless has urged David Moyes to make Said Benrahma the new West Ham United penalty taker.

In their last Premier League match, the Hammers fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat, missing a spot kick in the process – something which Declan Rice even apologised for on social media.

Mark Noble had been the club’s trusted man from 12 yards over the years, converting 28 of his 33 league attempts before retiring in the summer. And after this latest penalty was missed, much debate has been sparked over who should step up next.

In light of the discussion, Lawless said he ‘couldn’t believe’ Benrahma wasn’t trusted to take the spot-kick against Nottingham Forest and that he should be the main man going forward.

The West Ham Fan TV man wrote on Twitter: “Benrahma should be taking our penalties when he’s playing, I couldn’t believe they didn’t let him take it against Forest.

“Having Rice take them just because he is captain is stupid. Noble was great at them, Rice is not, which is fine because he’s great at many other things.”

TIF Thoughts on Said Benrahma and West Ham…

Since joining West Ham from Brentford, Benrahma hasn’t exactly been the most clinical, having scored just 12 goals in 83 appearances.

However, across his career, he has never missed a penalty, hitting the back of the net on all seven attempts in regular play – while he also scored in West Ham’s shootout win over Manchester City in the EFL Cup last term.

On the other hand, Rice has managed to score just once from three efforts, so it’s easy to see why Lawless said it was a ‘stupid’ decision to let the club captain take the spot kick.

Tomas Soucek is also another possible option, as he has 10 goals from 13 attempts – but considering Benrahma is yet to miss in his career, he may well be the perfect man for the job.

It will certainly be interesting to see who steps up next time for the Hammers.
