According to ExWHUemployee, West Ham United are due to reopen talks with Chelsea for wantaway defender Emerson Palmieri after initial negotiations fell apart.

The Hammers have splashed the cash so far in the summer transfer window, bringing in reinforcements in every area of the pitch as the likes of Gianluca Scamacca, Maxwel Cornet, Nayef Aguerd, Flynn Downes and Alphonse Areola have arrived.

However, despite the vast recruitment so far, it looks like Hammers brass are looking to continue bringing in targets, as Ex has revealed the club have re-entered talks with Chelsea to bring in Italian wing-back Emerson, despite talks initially collapsing.

Writing on the West Ham Way Patreon page on Friday morning, Ex said: “We spent yesterday talking to other left-back targets without much progress being shown and Chelsea/the agent spent time trying to negotiate a different club for Emerson again with limited success.

“This has led both clubs to resume negotiations. The fee was close before and should be agreed it is the player’s terms, more specifically around bonuses, and also the agent’s terms as well that was the problem. The club are hoping to overcome these problems in the next 24 hours, although nothing at this point is agreed.”

TIF Thoughts on Emerson to West Ham…

The 28-year-old enjoyed a fruitful season at Lyon in Ligue 1 last season, where he was able to get significant minutes under his belt, racking up 2,856 minutes in 37 appearances, where he also picked up a goal and two assists.

Having already picked up a number of players so far, it was reported that manager David Moyes would like to bring in another left-back to challenge current starter Aaron Cresswell, who will turn 33 this season.

We think Emerson would be a great signing for the east London club as he has shown himself to be great with the ball as well as defensively. He currently ranks in the 92nd percentile for passes attempted, in the 81st for clearances and in the 79th for progressive carries per game.

Initial talks reportedly broke down over personal terms, but they had a £13m bid accepted by Chelsea. If they are able to get his wages and various other personal terms agreed upon, we believe picking up a Premier League-proven wing-back like Emerson for under £15m would be a great coup for the Hammers.
