Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that West Ham United have a ‘definite interest’ in Flamengo playmaker Lazaro, with the end of the summer transfer window fast approaching.

The Hammers have struggled to find the back of the net in the Premier League so far this season, grabbing their first goal this weekend, which potentially puts a playmaker at the top of their wishlist. And that’s when a player like Lazaro could be an option, with 15 goal involvements in all competitions last season, despite being just 20 years old.

Of course, right now, the main name linked with a move to West Ham is Lucas Paqueta from Lyon, who was set to have a medical at the east London club this weekend. This may not stop the Hammers from looking elsewhere for other targets.

Having his say on Lazaro, Jones told GiveMeSport: “I don’t know much about that one in particular, but there does seem to be something in it.

“I texted one person that might know and he said there was definite interest, but he didn’t know how far along the road it was.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

West Ham’s interest is certainly interesting, but we have to admit, that given the Hammers are reportedly closing in on Paqueta, whether they aim to bring in another playmaking midfielder could be seen as unlikely. Of course, with time still left in the window, anything could still happen.

But as of right now, it looks as though David Moyes’ side could do with all the help they can get when it comes to finding the back of the net, though, and their apparent ‘definite interest’ in Lazaro perhaps hints at a desperation from the Hammers hierarchy.
