West Ham United are ‘thinking about’ making a move for England international Tyrone Mings this summer.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to GiveMeSport about the latest transfer plans at the London Stadium heading into the final few weeks of the window.

Mings’ future at Villa Park has been cast into doubt over the summer after he was dropped as the club captain by manager Steven Gerrard, before being left out of the club’s opening game of the season at Bournemouth.

However, the 29-year-old was recalled to the starting lineup for this weekend’s 2-1 triumph over Everton, suggesting that there still may be a future at the club for the former Ipswich Town man.

According to Sky Sports, Paris Saint-Germain’s Abdou Diallo and Thilo Kehrer have both been linked with a move to West Ham this summer, suggesting that David Moyes is still working on bringing in a centre-back to the London Stadium before the 1st September transfer deadline.

And Jones believes that the club are also considering a move for Mings this summer.

He said: “Tyrone Mings is one that hasn’t really been mentioned but is an obvious fit for what they’re looking for.

“They’re not looking for a first-choice defender, they’re looking for someone that can fight to be part of that team.

“You could say, ‘Tyrone Mings is struggling with that battle himself for Aston Villa. Why would he get it at West Ham?’

“But it might just be that he needs a new club.

“He is one that West Ham are aware of and of thinking about, but we’ll have to see whether it actually turns into anything active.”

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

We believe that a move to West Ham could be ideal for both Mings and the east London club, with the player potentially needing a fresh start this season.

The 17-time England international, who has previously been described as a “titan” by reporter Dan Bardell, has been a regular ever since signing for Villa initially on loan in January 2019, making 129 appearances, scoring seven goals and providing seven assists, according to Transfermarkt.

Therefore, we believe it would be difficult for Moyes to turn down the opportunity of bringing in someone with clear leadership qualities and who has played top-flight football on a consistently regular basis for a number of seasons now.
