ExWHUemployee has claimed on The Transfer Show that West Ham United’s initial low bid for Matheus Nunes is what ultimately saw them miss out on the player.

West Ham have had a very steady summer transfer window thus far, addressing key areas such as centre-back and the striker department, although Nayef Aguerd is yet to make his competitive debut for the club due to a pre-season injury.

However, one area they are yet to strengthen is the centre of midfield, with just the inexperienced Flynn Downes arriving. Although, it’s not as if they haven’t been trying, as they were turned down by Amadou Onana, who chose Everton over the Hammers, and most recently, they have missed out on Nunes, who has just joined Premier League rivals Wolves.

Ex spoke about how far off West Ham were in their valuation of Nunes, who has sealed a £38m move to Molineux.

Will West Ham finish in the top six?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

He said: “Matheus Nunes, someone that West Ham apparently bid £20m for, is going to Wolves for £38m, so that kind of gives a bit of an indication on how low we offer for players at times.”

TIF Thoughts as West Ham miss out on Nunes…

It obviously remains to be seen whether or not missing out on Nunes will be a blow for West Ham or a bullet dodged. However, it may be more likely the former considering that Pep Guardiola, one of the most successful managers of this generation, labelled Nunes ‘one of the best players in the world‘, after Manchester City played Sporting in the Champions League last season.

West Ham United fans, who were these players sold to? Starting with Felipe Anderson

If this is the way West Ham and their owners often try and conduct business by offering low amounts of money in the hope they can land a bargain deal, it will surely leave them with a lot of work to do come the end of the transfer window if selling clubs are not budging on their valuations.
