ExWHUemployee has claimed that West Ham United will further their ‘approach’ for Matheus Nunes.

The Irons are thought to have had a £25m bid rejected for the Sporting Lisbon playmaker who isn’t keen on a move with the Portuguese club holding out for an offer of £42m while Liverpool, Wolves and Chelse have all been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old ace.

Writing on The West Ham Way Patreon account before David Moyes’ press conference on Friday Ex said: We can confirm that Matheus Nunes is someone that the club are very aware on.

‘We believe that Matheus Nunes is one of the players we have had talks about in the attacking midfielder options.’

Moyes then openly admitted that afternoon that the Irons had made a bid for the Portuguese maestro but ‘he chose not to come’.

However, Ex did provide an update on his previous post to say: ‘The club are expected to follow up their talks with Nunes and try to get a deal accepted.

‘It remains to be seen whether we will get a bid accepted for Nunes and whether he wants to join us. It’s in the early stages but the club will continue approach for now.’

Will West Ham sign Depay?

A former teammate of Nunes, Goncalo Santos hailed him as an ‘unbelievable player’ and he has certainly caught the eye of some heavy-hitters across Europe, with Manchester City reportedly showing an interest as well, as per A Bola (via Sport Witness).

The eight-cap Portugal ace would be a classy addition to the midfield at the London Stadium ranking in the top 18% of his positional peers across Europe for pressures per 90 as well as in the top 1% for dribbles per game (Fbref) which would suggest he possess the same qualities of compatriot Bernardo Silva.

Again, it is another ambitious target for the Hammers to be exploring, but it does point to the level at which they are aspiring to reach and it will no doubt be intriguing for supporters to see how this one plays out.
