Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that there is genuine interest in Hans Vanaken from West Ham United this summer.

West Ham United have shown interest in Hans Vanaken this summer, and Sky Sports have reported that they have had a bid in the region of £8.4m rejected for him.

The Hammers have had a proactive summer transfer window, they have spent just over £111m on six new players, including Flynn Downes who plays centre midfield, but this has not stopped their interest in Vanaken.

Despite the Hammers showing interest in Vanaken, and them already submitting a bid for him, Crook spoke to GiveMeSport and claimed that there’s a bit of work to be done in order to get him in the door.

“The interest is genuine. I think their first offer has been turned down, so I think there’s a bit of work to be done on that one.

“But yeah, you’re right, he’s that sort of athletic type of profile that David Moyes loves. I think they will be, or try to be, one of the busier clubs in the last couple of weeks,” Crook said.

TIF Thoughts on Crook’s comments…

West Ham fell just short of Europa League qualification last season after they finished seventh in the Premier League, so David Moyes will be hoping that the new signings can help them push on to qualify for the competition this season.

Vanaken is an experienced midfielder who has bags of experience playing in the Champions League, after featuring 30 times in the competition so Moyes might see this and think he could be an improvement on his current options in that area of the pitch.

However, with Club Brugge already rejecting one bid for Vanaken this summer, it will be interesting to see how much the Hammers are willing to pay because they have already spent a significant amount in this window.
