Tottenham Hotspur: Journalist now thinks Spurs are unlikely to buy big this summer

|

Tottenham Hotspur could be done in the summer market in regard to bringing in players who will improve the starting XI.

This has been suggested by The Athletic journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke, who has been speaking about the Lilywhites’ transfer plans on the Doctor Tottenham podcast.

It has been a busy summer for the north London club, who have brought in six new signings so far, though none of those six started against Southampton on Saturday.

And it seems as if a seventh signing may now be set to be sealed in the coming days, with Udinese left-back Destiny Udogie believed to be close to putting pen to paper after the two clubs agreed a fee.

However, it does seem as if he is another one for the future as he looks set to return on loan to Udinese – and Pitt-Brooke feels this may be the theme for the remaining weeks of the window.

He said: “I’d probably bet against them getting in a first-team-ready player. I wouldn’t be surprised if they signed maybe a young player they can loan out or whatever, or to improve the squad.

“But I think in terms of a prominent, expensive first-team player, would probably just bet against it at this point.”

TIF Thoughts on Pitt-Brooke’s comments…

It has been a really impressive summer for Spurs, who have certainly improved their squad depth, and that could certainly be seen against the Saints with the likes of Ivan Perisic coming off the bench.

Do Spurs need more players this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

There have been suggestions Spurs are looking into the possibility of making a move for Nicolo Zaniolo in the remaining weeks of the window, however, Saturday’s performance may suggest they do not need to spend big on a creative midfielder.

With Richarlison still to come into the side and Dejan Kulusevski continuing his fine form from last season, we think there are very few areas for improvement this summer in Antonio Conte’s XI.
