Journalist Jack Pitt-Brooke has stated how surprised he is at the career trajectory of Tottenham Hotspur man Harry Winks as he moves on loan to Sampdoria.

Earlier this week, Spurs officially announced that the Englishman would be heading out on loan to Serie A for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

On top of that, according to the article published on Sampdoria’s official website, the Italian club also have an option to buy Winks at the end of his spell.

With that in mind, Winks may have played his last game for Tottenham. Reacting to this news, Pitt-Brooke took to Twitter to outline his thoughts on the player’s development over the past few years.

He wrote: “I think having watched Winks be so good so quickly under Pochettino, it is a bit of a surprise how the last few years have gone. Spurs have changed their playing style a bit which hasn’t helped, and they’ve signed players who are better without the ball.”

TIF Thoughts on Harry Winks and Spurs…

In an article for The Athletic, the journalist further fleshed out his ideas, writing about how Mauricio Pochettino initially got the best out of the midfielder during his tenure. But the arrival of Tanguy Ndombele in 2019 and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg a year later saw Winks swiftly fall out of favour.

Considering the Englishman started the Champions League final for Spurs back in 2019, his recent career developments certainly have been a fall from grace.

Indeed, he has made less than 20 appearances in the Premier League over the past two seasons and is yet to feature once this term – and now won’t play at all following his loan move.

All in all, it does seem as though Winks’ best years with Spurs are now simply a thing of the past.
