Earlier this week, Spurs announced that the Argentinian would be committing his future to Antonio Conte’s side as his initial loan switch from Atalanta has turned into a permanent move that will see him remain in north London until 2027.
According to The Athletic, as part of his loan deal, Tottenham had the option to buy the defender for an initial €50m (£42.5m) with a further €5m (£4.25m) in add-ons, and so he hasn’t arrived for cheap.

This latest development won’t exactly come as a shock to fans, with Romero already playing twice in the Premier League this season – so it was clear he would remain with Spurs beyond his one-year loan.
Even so, supporters will enjoy the official announcement and be glad to see one of their key players commit to the club for the next five years.
Having already won the Copa America during his 11 international caps with Argentina, Romero certainly is a high-calibre defender. No doubt, Paratici, Conte and co will be hoping he can help deliver some silverware at Spurs in the near future.
